It's simple... If you buy a new home and expect a written guarantee with the paintwork then think again as there isn't one. Unless that is your home is painted to the :- Paint manufacturers specification For example our walls have the Solver recommended white undercoat (not tinted) and 2 coats of Solver Maxiwash above the correct minimum thickness etc. Therefore our walls are guaranteed by the Solver paint warranty. If the specification reads :- Painted to builders specification. It could mean that you have only 2 thin top coats which is not recommended or guaranteed. This could result in :- 1/ Transparency of the paint work ( Plasterboard flush lines visible etc.) 2/ Lack of Stain Blocking ( Paint absorbs dirt and stains and will not wash off ) 3/ Absence of sheen uniformity ( Walls appear patchy and lack an even finish ) 4/ No manufacturers guarantee 5/ A full repaint at your expense ( as you accepted the builders specification )
If you need further information go to your local paint shop and ask them or contact Office of Consumer affairs regarding paintwork on new homes.
